Britain and Short Round: Two white boys in their twenties, in a suburb of Detroit, wondering when their record deal is going to get here.

Tiny Mullet-Head Wig For Sale --
Ever wanted a tiny mullet-head wig in a sort of red-brown autumn tint? Well, all this and more can now be yours! As I posted this, the tiny red-brown mullet-head wig was under $20, but it may not be that way for long -- it belonged to the robot "star" of a pissant cable series called "Mystery Science Theatre 4000" or something.

Calm down now, I was only kidding. I loved MST3k too.

Big Audio Dynamite Sound System (Mark VI?) -- Thursday, September 23, 1999
If I had a nickel for every time someone's run across this site and said "Wow, they're still together!" like I did...

There are MP3s of their new tracks here. Apparently they have a monthly residency at a club in the UK. Cool...

Rocky Horror Sequel -- it's Happening! -- Thursday, September 23, 1999
I don't know, this plot idea sounds a little too much like a summer replacement comedy to star... um... I can't think of anyone, and everybody else picks on Steve Guttenberg.

The Ann Arbor Outback Steakhouse -- Thursday, September 23, 1999
Kevin and Morme and Hector, our Ascend instructor, had dinner here tonight. Our waitperson was a delightful human being who suggested many coconut-based entrees, all of which -- to my surprise -- I enjoyed!

The waitperson asked us about her internet connection as I was signing away the check. She was having SMTP server issues. We told her to ask her school's computer lab for the SMTP server's address, but there wasn't much we could do about her MS Office/Netscape compatibility problems.

On the way back to work, the fellows were calling me the Golden Boy and telling me I was "in there." I wonder what they were talking about, but on the other hand I don't think I want to know.

Lucent/Ascend presents: MAX TNT Boxes -- Thursday, September 23, 1999
I apologize for not updating in a couple of days. I was in training to learn how to use these jobbers and didn't have much in the way of web access.

Crazy Taxis are GO! -- Sunday, September 19, 1999
Even if you can't dig on the insane, Offspring-powered, vaguely-San-Francisco-themed, roofless driving shenanigans that are "Crazy Taxi," you will most certainly be impressed at the 3-D model of a San Francisco-area Kentucky Fried Chicken store.

Sam & Max Central -- Sunday, September 19, 1999
Although many web sites soldier on memorializing the infrequently-chronicled comic freelance cops, only one has all the Fox Kids promo comix scanned in, and has a link to sound blips from their classic CD-ROM game. That would be this one.

Microwave Grape Fireworks Show -- Sunday, September 19, 1999
This guy has already achieved Legend status for making a flamethrower out of a toaster with strawberry pop-tarts in it. But apparently that is not his only claim to fame!

Mmm, Squid-Ink Pizza -- Sunday, September 19, 1999
The corn pizza, I'd heard about; but the rest of this stuff really knocked me for a loop.

CarPlayer -- MP3s off of CDs -- Saturday, September 18, 1999
Say you like the idea, but you'd rather carry your mp3s on a disc for easier swappability. You want to check out this page -- they sell their box as a pre-assembled kit (minus the drive, of which a basic one can be had for less than $100) or just the plans to build your own. Cool!

The MP-Chevy Project -- Saturday, September 18, 1999
They said "under the seat is where the computer oughta be," so they loaded up the truck and they moved to MP3.

Say hello to... iGat? -- Saturday, September 18, 1999
Legendary marketing-deconstruction zine "Stay Free!" remakes an Apple ad with colorful handguns. Need Flash plugin.

Britain Wants a Captive Audience -- Saturday, September 18, 1999
Please sign up for my brand new mailing list! If you like the entries here, you will more than likely enjoy the list. I promise not to spam you daily with messages, I won't sell you anything, and nobody will be able to post other stuff to the list or get your address, unless hackers bust into egroups.com or something. But they wouldn't do that. There arebigger fish to fry...

The subscribe form is at the bottom of this page; to see the archive, click the above logged link. Thank you.

Leftfield Official -- Saturday, September 18, 1999
This band made a really terrific album in 1996, then dropped off the face of the earth for a few years, contributing only a couple of new tracks to soundtracks and compilations. Then, this year, they put out two new singles, and the followup album is out next week. Yay!

Gopher: The Internet Before Netscape -- Friday, September 17, 1999
Tim Berners-Lee of the World Wide Web Consortium was recently on National Public Radio talking about his work, and he dropped a reference to Gopher, the Minnesota-developed internet server that seemed to be the future of Internet information networks until the Web came along, and Netscape blew it up big.

I was delighted to discover that latter-day versions of Netscape still navigate gopher servers, and that UMinnesota still maintains portions of theirs, the root gopher server. Check the "Fun & Games" menu for many ancient examples of "net.humor."

Hart Scientific's Y2k Plan -- Friday, September 17, 1999
The whole concept is getting a little old, but this is a particularly amusing example.

David Bowie's new video -- Friday, September 17, 1999
In the video for David Bowie's new song on the "Stigmata" soundtrack, Bowie commissioned four doppelbowies of some of his previous fashion statements.
After reading who he got to do the dummies, I can't get the phrase "Muppet Bowie" out of my mind.

The Vault: Previous links on our weblog -- Friday, September 17, 1999
Short Round and Britain have been doing this weblog thing for, oh, weeks now. If you just somehow got here after reading that Entertainment Weekly article with Andrew, the Pitas guy, you might want to enjoy some previous installments. If any of the links in the archive are dead, we will give you double your money back.
